A Stolen Life by Jaycee Dugard
5.0
I cannot fathom people giving this a bad review because of the writing.
I'll be the first to admit that I get annoyed reading a book with grammar and spelling issues, but honestly? I barely noticed them in Jaycee's memoir. I was too engrossed in her harrowing story. As for the slight confusion in timeline and the way it was written, Jaycee states at the beginning that this will be confusing. She spent 18 years in a horrendous situation, of course she's not going to remember it in a clear-cut way. Of course she's not going to write it like a pretty little well organised story.
This is Jaycee's story how she tells it. Yes, a ghostwriter helped her get it on the page and articulate what she went through, that does not mean they are going to polish it and tidy it up. Because the story still isn't polished and tidy for Jaycee. She's not going to pretend it is. She wrote - on the very first page - to come back in 10 years if you want it less confusing.
All in all, an amazing insight into what this strong, inspiring woman went through. I read it in one sitting.
