“Marriage For One”

At this point anything by Ella Maise is a win win for me, and an automatic, “shut up and gimmie that book!” My only disappointment was that I didn’t read this book sooner!

This book had some of my favorite tropes from, grumpy/ sunshine, slow burn romance, marriage of convenience, forced proximity. I loved seeing Jack’s serious exterior just melt away with every interaction with Rose. Plus the way that Rose counted the times that Jack smiled, *cue cute, romantic music in background. Also, let’s not forget the fact that Jack always delivered fresh bouquets of roses for Rose so she can display them in her coffee shop. Umm excuse me, I would like to order a Jack Hawthorne to go please.

From the moment, I started reading this book, it instantly gave me peace and comfort. I felt like this was a book I could easily imagine myself picking up again to re-read or become a “comfort” read, a book that I could find myself going back to for the sake of me falling in love with these characters. As much as I enjoyed and admired Jack, I loved Rose even more. Rose was a bit quirky in the sense that whenever Jack managed to catch her off guard with his displays of affections, treating her with kindness, or anything really, she would sometimes get flustered by Jack’s behavior and that resulted in some funny moments of Rose saying the funniest things. Together, Jack and Rose were not only an interesting couple, but as they got to know each other during their marriage, they really started to develop feelings for one another… or at least someone already developed feelings long before the marriage.

Another thing I liked about this story was the lingering mystery with Jack. In bits and pieces early on in the story, through Jack’s P.O.V. Chapters, it was implied that Jack knew about Rose from way before the initially met at his office, and that Jack had a secret he was keeping from Rose. The secrets surrounding Jack and his true intentions with Rose added an unique twist to the plot, and left me trying to connect the dots while reading.

Like the hopeless romantic that I am, Ella Maise was able to capture my heart once again, but this time with Jack and Rose. Ironically enough, the fact that the main characters have the same names like the characters in the movie, “Titanic”, I found interesting. Jack and Rose’s story started off right away with them getting married so in a sense right when you start reading, you’ll be thrust right into the story.

This story was truly the epitome of romance. From all the thoughtful, romantic gestures Jack did for Rose it was truly sweet, endearing, and absolutely made me scream for joy! I’m a sucker for romance so this book definitely checked off all the boxes on my list. I loved Jack and Rose and (sigh) it was a beautiful book, by the end of the epilogue it was a lovely ending. Once again Ella Maise won my heart over with her story.
