The Will of the Many by James Islington

5.0

Needed a break from ARC reads, and needed something phenomenal to stave off any reading slumps. The Will of the Many was perfect. I should’ve read this months ago. (And I could use a sequel right now!!)

The Will of the Many is a cutthroat dark academia set in a fantasy world. (One I thought I mostly understood, until those very last few chapters!) while it’s clearly the set up for a much larger story, it stands on its own very well. It introduces its fantasy concepts and sets up the world really well, but I never felt bored; the pacing of it was perfect.

Vis does read as older than the 17 he is meant to be, but considering his background and trauma, that’s almost understandable. I like him as a character, I like that he’s just a little unhinged.
James Islington does characters really well in general; they were all very distinct, and despite how many characters there are in this book, they didn’t blur together!

I am trying to think of something to compare this to. It’s Dark Academia in a High Fantasy setting with Hunger Games vibes. This is a must-read!
