The Complete Fiction of H. P. Lovecraft by H.P. Lovecraft
3.0
3.5 stars.
Lovecraft is obviously one of the most influential horror writers to walk the Earth, and for good reason. Some of the stuff in this collection is jarring, terrifying, and unique. Not to mention, his prose was so elegant they could have been measured as high-class drapes.
Still, the stories that truly worked for me -- At the Mountains of Madness, for example -- comprised a very small portion of this collection. A lot of the other stuff wasn't as effective, showed its age, or showed Lovecraft's very overt racism.
So, all in all, his entire collection of stories is a mixed bag. But there are some excellent stories in here, to be sure.
