When It Rains by Lisa De Jong
5.0
If I knew this book would wreck me like this ... I would've read it sooner. I only picked it up because Melissa recommended it to me for our challenge and I'm so, so incredibly happy I finally read it! I might have been emotionally drained, sitting in a corner, hugging my Kindle tight to my chest while sobbing uncontrollably but ... this has been one of the best books I've read in the NA genre.
"From now on... When it rains, think of me."
I've never heard or read anything by Lisa De Jong before but now I know this won't be the last book I'm gonna read. Her writing style is incredible and she has such a great way of letting the readers feel everything she writes. I'm serious, this has been so, so emotional and intense! Everyone who's thinking about reading this book should DEFINITELY have a whole box of tissues right next to you - you'll need it.
Kate Alexander has had a rough time these past few years after what happened to her in high school and wasn't able to move on ever since. She's pushed away everyone who tried to get close to her and be there for her, especially her best friend Beau Bennett. All that changes though as she meets Asher Hunt. A mysterious, handsome guy with secrets on his own. From the first moment their eyes connected, she couldn't help but feel intrigued. He helps her facing her fears, makes her happy and is giving her a second chance at life ... until everything breaks apart again.
"Love is a powerful emotion. It has the ability to get you through anything. But you have to let it."
The characters were all brilliant. It was so easy to feel what they felt and I already teared up a few times before the big sobbing started. Oh my, this was an emotional rollercoaster, I tell you. I didn't expect it to get that intense though ... I mean, after reading the prologue I already knew this will be terrible. That it'll break my heart into tiny little pieces but what I got? That was so much worse, yet at the sime time amazing as well. It's heartbreakingly beautiful and makes you think about a lot of stuff.
Honestly, I can't even find the right words to describe what I feel. Nothing I write can do this justice, it was that good. I have so many feels right now - mostly for Asher because he's my love. I adore this guy so, so much. He's done so many great things and has one of the purest and most amazing hearts someone can ever have ... he's simply amazing. I'M TEARING UP AGAIN, SOMEONE PLEASE HUG ME!!!
"All the stars shine for you, Asher."
To bring this to an end: Please read this book. It has everything in it. And all the crying? Well, it's definitely worth it. It'll break your heart ... then it'll slowly piece it together just to crush it again but it's so worth it and even found a spot on my favorites list (where it definitely belongs!). Just trust me and give it a chance, you won't regret it.
