All the Colors of the Dark by Chris Whitaker
4.0
More often than not, thrillers piss me off. The writing is terrible, the characters are boring, and the plot is just stupid. None of those things are true when it comes to All the Colors of the Dark, my first book by Whitaker. His writing is very evocative without being manipulative. His characters are vivid and interesting and complex. This book was too long and the plot was a smidge unbelievable, but I did not care. I was entranced from the beginning and with each twist, I never saw it coming.
I think I’ll be reading Whitaker again! His writing really is quite beautiful. It’s hard to pull off a thriller that spans decades and is a slow-burn character study, but he did!
