What Doesn't Kill Us: How Freezing Water, Extreme Altitude, and Environmental Conditioning Will Renew Our Lost Evolutionary Strength by Scott Carney
3.0
(listened as audiobook)
This non-fiction book is written in a “journalistic” style, where the author actively participates in the events that are described, similar to Moonwalking with Einstein. The book focuses on Wim Hof and his methods, starting off by telling how the author wrote an initial article on Wim Hof. The book loses with the author ascending Mount Kilimanjaro in record time wearing practically no clothes, using Wim Hof's method to acclimatize to altitude.
In between, the book delves into Wim Hof's story and method in more detail. It also explores extreme mudders and Spartan races. The book is similar to James Nestor's Breathe, but with more story and less pseudoscience.
Overall, worth a read, especially since the book opens one's mind to the possibilities of the human body.
