I’ve been waiting for the release of this book since I first started seeing Tiktok’s about the plot. All I needed to know was that it was written by Nisha, who I already love, it was inspired by The Taming of the Shrew, and the retelling 10 Things I Hate About You, and that it had meddling aunties. SOLD.
Imagine waking up on your thirtieth birthday to find out not only did your family forget it was your birthday [possible nod to Sixteen Candles?] but your dad plans on retiring and selling the house your mom built! A house you’ve grown up in and continued remodel’s on because you thought it would someday be yours.
Not going to lie throughout this book I really just wanted to smack or shake, everyone in Kareena’s family. People who should be supporting Kareena but just constantly put her, and her dreams, down like she’s being unrealistic. Having grown up with someone who always made me feel inadequate…I was livid for Kareena.
I absolutely love any, and all, books that have a character that is like “I don’t believe in love…love doesn’t exist” because we can see through actions, and words, EVERY time that they do have feelings for the other character but because their definition is so different they don’t realize it’s love. Prem can say he doesn’t believe in love, all he wants, but his actions and words say otherwise.
From start to finish I loved this story and cannot wait until we get more. I also loved that they briefly mention Bharat Inc, and the Singh family, which means they share a universe, and maybe they’ll have some crossover in the future?
