The Other Olympians: Fascism, Queerness, and the Making of Modern Sports by Michael Waters

informative reflective medium-paced

5.0

A fascinating blend of sports and queer history. I didn't know that sex testing in sports dates back to the 1936 Berlin Olympics and the Nazi regime, but of course it makes sense that's where it all started. Speaking of the Nazis and terrible people, this book also introduced me to Avery Brundage, who was  obsessed with how someone qualifies as 'female'. Despite the rage this book inspires, I thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend this compelling book.
