What makes Fourth Wing so special isn't any of the tropes. You could pick any trope out of a favorites jar, and it will most likely show up. Love triangles, check. enemies to lovers, check. MC with a new never before seen power check. No, you could argue that the familiar tropes used are to its detriment. And that's fair, there's nothing new here.

However I think fourth wing still shines through because it succeeds on every single one of the tropes. It accomplishes everything it's set out to do. And that's there is truly the mark of quality. For if you failed to do what you set out to, what's the point.

So was this the best book in the world? No. Did it change my life as it has for others, once again no. But is it still a good book, that's fun, exciting and sexy? Absolutely
