Nemesis Games by James S.A. Corey

5.0

My least favourite season of the TV show proved to be my favourite book in the series so far! In Nemesis Games the crew of the Rocinante are split up: Holden on Tycho waiting for the Roci to be repaired, Naomi looking for her son, Alex and Bobbie investigating some suspicious activity on Mars, and Amos back in Baltimore looking for information on something from his past. But what the book is able to do that the TV season didn't is really get the reader inside each character's head, which keeps us learning new insight even as some parts of the plot progress slowly at first. It's by far our best look at Naomi so far and it adds exponentially to her strength and complexity. It's also a great look at the inner workings of Amos' mind and how he performs emotion that he doesn't really feel or fully understand. I also felt like this book did a better job than previous ones at limiting duplication when switching between POV characters, and keeping a steady pace.
