This should be required reading for everyone. Even more so for anyone that wants to be or already is a parent.
Rosie and Penn always wanted a little girl, but they quit trying after their fifth boy. Five-year-old Claude is the youngest of the bunch and he wants to be a girl when he grows up.
Stemming from her own similar-yet-different family experience, Laurie Frankel describes how the Walsh-Adams family reacts to Claude, now Poppy, being transgender.
This Is How It Always Is is so many things. It’s a family growing and learning and grieving and finding joy and holding space and doing what they think is best for their family. It’s Poppy learning who she truly is. It’s the family diving into the unknown. It‘s an LGBTIQA+ story that happens often but rarely gets the space to be told. It’s emotional and touching.
Truly, a must read.
