The White Darkness by David Grann
3.0
This is a New Yorker article published as a book. I totally understand this as a marketing decision, since Grann's fantastic Killers of the Flower Moon was a huge hit, and since I know a lot of dads I could buy this kind of book for as a Christmas present. However, it doesn't seem to have been expanded at all and it did read more like a long article than a book, a straightforward journalistic presentation of an interesting story. I'm a homebody, I guess, and have a hard time identifying with the urge to cross Antarctica just because no one else ever has, so it wasn't quite my thing. I didn't find it special enough to cross over the gap of that disinterest, but if you are interested in the subject, you'd probably enjoy it. It's a quick 140 pages, including pictures.
