Killing Floor by Lee Child
3.0
I was telling my dad I wanted to get into more mystery/crime/thriller books and he reminded me of the Jack Reacher novels, of which he is a big fan. I’ve actually read this one before but he’s also been pushing me to watch the new series on Prime, and I figured it would be a good launch into my new reading goal to get back into this book series.
I like Jack Reacher. He’s muted and a bit of a detached narrator but he’s a tough mfer. He’s not just all brawn either, he’s smart and sometimes too smart for his own good. This crime mystery isn’t full of twists and turns but it is a story that sets you up thinking it’s all about murder when in fact, a little Georgia town is hiding something altogether different.
The prose, however, not so great. I’ve always felt Lee had a really matter-of-fact sort of writing. Not poetic or lyrical. It’s a lot of short sentences and to-the-point descriptions with decent dialogue, but when you consider Jack Reacher is the narrator it sort of makes sense and works.
