Crypt of the Moon Spider by Nathan Ballingrud

5.0

“Moon, are you lonely?”

You’re tellin’ me Nathan Ballingrud is writing a Gothic Lunar Horror Trilogy™️ about a mental institution in 1923 built in the forests of the frickin’ MOON and the next book isn’t out UNTIL AUGUST 2025?! This was EIGHTY FIVE PAGES. I read it in TWO HOURS. I sprinted word to word, descending the tunneled steps and into the spindly, ensnaring webs of Ballingrud’s latest delightful tale. If I had known it was the beginning of a trilogy, I would have attempted to savor it a little longer. Like a good sandwich, or cheesecake. I dare you to try and read this one at a less than feverish pace.

Ballingrud’s impeccable talent of creating captivating characters with approximately two sentences has never failed to amaze me, couldn’t say anything different with “Crypt” (Goodnight Maggie? Alabaster Scholars? Come on!)

5/5 Marking my calendar for the second installment! And MARKING MY WORDS: this is going to be a spectacular series!
