Keeping 13 by Chloe Walsh

emotional sad tense fast-paced

4.0

First read: (june 2023)
Ok liked this better than the first one! Jonny’s mom was my absolute favorite. Again I didn’t want to put this down, which was a problem bc of how long it was. So much stuff that was unnecessary. Overall cute
Read.

Second read: (Jan 2025)
Ok so one of my 2025 ✨reading goals✨ is to read more rereads. It’s so easy to get caught up in TBR grind, but sometimes you gotta stop and smell the roses. And who better to smell than the Boys of Tommen?! I reread Binding and Keeping 13 and they def hit different this time around. When I read these the first time I was so hung up on the length (they’re long) and finishing it- I didn’t truly enjoy all the dialogue. This time I found myself laughing and crying more. I found myself frustrated with Shannon’s inability to stand up for herself the first time I read these. This time around I felt like I understood her better and saw her bravery in a different light. I definitely loved Jonny more in my reread (who knew it was possible)!

All that to say, cheers to rereading books this year 🥂 (and yes it counts towards your reading goal)!!!!!!

Shannon comes from a broken home. Jonny is trying to play Rugby internationally. When their worlds literally collide Johnny knows he shouldn’t focus on anything else but Rugby, but Shannon makes it impossible to focus on anything but her. These books are based in Ireland, have a great teen romance theme, and touch on abuse. Love them both so much ❤️
