Thieves' Gambit by Kayvion Lewis

3.0

This is a great read for teens looking for an enjoyable, easy read that features a female protagonist as our thief. I think it’s wonderful that YA readers are getting a new action and adventure book to give both girls, and boys, the opportunity to read something else other than Alex Rider. ⁣

I should note I haven’t read The Inheritance Games, it’s ordered for my school library, but it’s been compared to this so I am excited to also read this series and have it in our collection! I will be purchasing Thieves Gambit for my all boys school library, it’ll be great addition to our Action & Adventure section! ⁣

I am not the intended audience for this book, and I get to come in and out of the YA genre and sadly this one wasn’t for me. The pacing of the book felt off the entire time for me, and yes the stakes were high but just not believable. I guessed every big reveal, which was a shame. I wasn’t pulled into the story, nor cared for the protagonist, the emotional connection to any of the characters was low. I think that others, particularly younger readers, will enjoy the book. It does have it all, a fun heist, romance, friendship dilemmas, as well family issues for our protagonist to navigate through. No fault of the book that adult me found it to be average- I really think teens will enjoy this story, and I am still giving it a solid 3 star rating! ⁣
