Many Fragile Things by Victoria Ngujiri
5.0
"...If my message is to make sense,
I tell it to those who speak my language.
My tribe
You cannot translate tribes...”

First time I read a few drafts, I wept. Tears of joy and a bit of sorrow. Felt like Victoria took my feels in my heart and words that lingers on my soul and penned them.
Poetry does not have to complex multilayered text. It can be easy to digest yet succinct, thought provocative and causing deep palpitations. That's what Many Fragile Things is to me. So hypnotizing were her poems I read the book in one sitting, twice.
Delicately and beautiful written, curated, illustrated. If we was to crown Victoria, I'd adorn her queen of hearts. She pulls you in with words that make you feel things. Impossible? Read:
'...Nobody knowingly picks shambles
Picks to have love living in a broken place.
With roofs that leak insecurities,
Hallways haunted by self sabotage,
And demons long dead but still insisting on resurrection...'
Chapter one, Happy Ever Afters, was definitely a fave of mine because it had a number of playful well versed poems touching on love, it's innocence, jubilations...
From some lovely moments we go down into brokenness, delicate matters handled as if they'd burn you if you dig deep. Chapter two, Many Fragile Things, makes you questions things you have been ignoring or running away from. Yearning answers to fill your brokenness, craving heal but still being held back.
Chapter 3, Teotihuacan, will leave you healthy as it's filling and wholesome, food for the spirit and soul. Healing and connecting with the maker, reminding you of your power and beauty.
And with poetry sometimes you didn't get to digest everything at once. Some will sip in slowly and knock you out later. Others will leave you ruminating till you...heal. This is chapter two for me.
Many Fragile Things is worth your time and mulla. Both poetry lovers and those who shy away might enjoy this book. I can wait to read more from your works. Feed me more!
"I pray for you like I would my own,
That God, the father, provides the strength.
Jesus, the son, guide your steps,
And that the Holy Spirit protect your ways..."
I tell it to those who speak my language.
My tribe
You cannot translate tribes...”
