Witches Steeped in Gold by Ciannon Smart
1.0
DNF/5 Stars: ‘Witches Steeped in Gold’ (Book #1 of ‘Witches Steeped in Gold’) by Ciannon Smart.
→ Age Range: Young Adult.
→ Genre: Paranormal, High Fantasy.
→ Trigger Warnings: Abuse, Gore, Death.
In-depth Rating:
→ Plot: ★
→ Character Development: ★
→ Setting: ★
→ Entertainment Level: ★
→ Writing: ★
General Comments: Jamaican Folklore; a system of political matriarchy fuelled by magic, bound by betrayal, and held together by manipulation and sheer force of will. The basic set-up – as well as – the general promotion is full of twists and turns involving morally grey characters. However, the characters are not clear cut, combined with a vast swath of supporting character is it difficult to connect to them.
Favourite Quote: ‘Though the night is flush with stars, the sky still seems like a lid of earth closing atop a grave.’
Time Read: One Day.
→ Audiobook: No.
→ Audiobook Narrator: -
