The Annotated Chronicles by Tracy Hickman, Margaret Weis

3.0

I picked this up, my first Dragonlance book(s), since I love Weis & Hickman's Deathgate Cycle. This one is the first book that they wrote together, and it does show. I think the writing started to flow more by the end, but coming from their later work, it just wasn't the same quality. This was a good book, and I imagine that for anyone who's read more of the series that it gets even better, since the characters will be more fleshed out and have more sentimental value.

The annotations themselves were a mixed bag. A few were really interesting, some were redundant, and quite a few were just references to other books that fit into the storyline. They didn't really bother me, but I think they could have made them a lot more interesting, or just have a foreword or afterword with each book. Afterword might have been best since there were a few spoilers in there - I guess they didn't expect people who'd never read the book to have this edition.
