Ash Princess by Laura Sebastian

Entertaining enough, but not as much as a page-turner as I’d hoped. Very much a cookie cutter YA fantasy, and I guessed the entire plot of the book basically as soon as I started reading. I found myself often annoyed with the protagonist who seemed to a rather passive role throughout - it felt like rather than inciting a rebellion, the rebellion was happening to her. The side characters, ironically enough, played a much more active role. However, I can appreciate how fun it was to read with violence and schemes abound, and I’ll definitely continue on with the series, if only for the passive entertainment I get.
