Blue Stars: Mission One: The Vice Principal Problem by Kekla Magoon and Cynthia Leitich Smith, and illustrated by Molly Murakami [Candlewick Press #gifted]
Riley and Maya are cousins who have not seen each other since they were 3. But now that they're entering sixth grade, they find themselves living with one another due to family circumstances. They have different interests and seem to conflict at every turn. But when they both find that their clubs at school are at risk of being cut due to budget cuts, they work together to deal with the problem, namely their vice principal.
This was a fun graphic novel read that is filled with diverse characters and relevant issues that young people are facing these days.
