Legendborn hooked me from the start! I love a good YA series with diverse characters and that does NOT shy away from real-world injustice and prejudice. I found the main character complex and likeable and the magic system very interesting. Boy is this book full of action too! There are some minor violent descriptions, but nothing too gratuitous and minor swearing present for those who want to avoid it.

tw for: minor mention of rape, death of a parent, racism, slavery, grief and death.
For anyone avoiding this book for the rape mention, I am very sensitive to that subject and it was not graphic at all. The word was not even mentioned, so fair warning but as a sensitive person I did not have a big reaction to it.
