The Obelisk Gate by N.K. Jemisin

5.0

A delicious, tense, meaty sequel to [b:The Fifth Season|19161852|The Fifth Season (The Broken Earth, #1)|N.K. Jemisin|https://d2arxad8u2l0g7.cloudfront.net/books/1386803701s/19161852.jpg|26115977]. The plot thickens, the world-building/geological background gets way deeper. As I commented while reading, a novel as much about love and family and self worth as it is about cataclysmic destruction. And in this current political climate, in this era of #blacklivesmatter, Essun's passionate defense of children -- not one more child's death -- felt particularly poignant, meaningful, knot-in-the-throat inducing.

I cannot, cannot wait for the final book, which is releasing in December, I understand. Longer review to come.
