I went into this one without much expectations. I hadn't read anything from Charlotte McConaghy before but I really liked the nature theme in this book and also the reality of animals going extinct. I always cared a lot about wild animals though I've lived in a city my entire life. Nature gives me peace. I liked a lot of things about this book. The character being quite ambiguous and intriguing. The tensions between fishermen and the scientists. These are issues that I've wondered a lot about and I liked how her portrayal of them was very humane, because most of these fishermen really are just trying to make a living.

Franny's pain and thoughts really came to a light at the end and the pay off had me sobbing at how much pain she held for so long. The ending was great, I loved how she made peace with everything.

Side note: I'm also glad that no fish were actually fished while Franny was on board.
