Despite only being the month of March, I am quite confident this is going to be my favorite book of this year. The Hate U Give is a YA contemporary must-read for everyone. This is a Black Lives Matter novel following our main character Starr who is with her childhood best friend, Khalil, heading home from a party when they get pulled over by the police. Khalil loses his life that night. This book looks racism dead in the eye and brings many issues to light. This book will make you think about your own biases and makes room for a conversation about race when so often the topic is swept under the rug. This book will change your life. HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
