You're Not My King! by Eryn Hawk
5.0
Wowwie, I enjoyed this book so much! Both Reuben and Vo'ak had a lot of emotional growing to do at the beginning of this book, and it was painful at times to watch Roo, especially, go in circles trying to figure out what he wanted. Vo'ak's arrogance got in the way of him being able to see just how prominent Roo's underlying panic was. I had a hard time reading this book at times, as a big theme of this book was the fact that Roo wasn't given any choice in his circumstance. He always tried to accept what happened to him the best he could, but the feeling helplessness was suffocating, especially with his past of addiction and abuse. Coming to terms with his new situation was really hard for him, and even when Vo'ak thought he was doing all in his power to ease the transition, the language barrier made it impossible for him to fully understand the extent of Reuben's urge to run. I thought the use of side characters in this book to help both main characters get their shit together was brilliantly done. They each had their own support system separate from each other, and were able to lean on them for support when they needed. This book had a really decent amount of drama and peril, and a huge heaping helping of spice! I loved this book, and I want to read more from this author for sure! I definitely recommend checking the TW's, though, as there are a lot of moments in this book with sensitive content.
