Jess's mother died in a car accident, and Jess temporarily lost the ability to walk. As she learned to walk again, she was sent to live with her father, who was living off the grid in the north. After a tragic incident, she is forced to survive the bitter winter with nothing but her father's dog for company.

For fans of Hatchet and other survival stories, this is a great read. There is a bit of action adventure as Jess is seeking vengeance for the tragic incident that left her alone in the cold. I like this book quite a bit.
