I didn’t expect anything specific from this story but I enjoyed it. It’s been sitting in my Kindle library for weeks until I decided to jump right into it. So much happened in a little over a hundred pages, and it didn’t feel overwhelming or too much. There was just enough lore to history to action. What I enjoyed the most though was the main character’s arc wasn’t your typical “I have powers and I don’t know how to use them and I need the entire story to figure it out”—No! She knew her powers and helped someone else, who was much older than her, reach their potential with theirs. I didn’t even know (or expect) her to be 13 until it came up. The relationship between her and the captain was perfectly executed. To see them grow to connect and trust each other in such a short time was impressive. The sisterhood among the women in the story itself was nice to see. This could be a hit or miss but I definitely recommend to at least try it out!
