I thought this started a little slow (even though it’s starts with a tragic accident), but once it got going - wow! Told in (mostly) two points of view over three timelines, this book simultaneously tells the story of Hannah: WWII widow who married a British government official to escape a refugee camp and how she fought for her family; young Mallory: a girl who is nannying for her crush’s family over the summer where romance blooms when they both finally confess their love only to be torn apart in a horrendous way; and grown up Mallory who is just trying to help her son survive the consequences of his tragedy and is thrust back into the life of the man she left behind who is now a world famous rock star. How these stories intertwine is beautiful. So much heartbreak, so many horrendous events, and yet love prevails though not always as you expect. Beautifully written! I am sad to see these characters go!
