Say Nothing is an extremely well researched and well written book about the Troubles in Northern Ireland. While primarily focused on the IRA, I didn’t feel any sense of bias within Keefe’s writing. He managed to cover a very heavy topic with sensitivity and respect.
•
While the book does include a lot of names and dates, typical of an historical account, Keefe also focuses on the personal lives of several key players which makes this book unputdownable.

There were a lot of horrible acts committed during the Troubles, by many groups or sides, seemingly typical behavior during a war. While I won’t say I’m sympathetic to those who commit terrorist acts, I think what Say Nothing does best is show that while actions can certainly be good or bad, people don’t generally fall into a category so easily.
