The Joker by Nikki J. Summers

5.0

***I received an ARC of this book.***

I don't know how Nikki J Summers manages to do this to me with these books but once again I am absolutely in love with a Soldier.

If you haven't read the first two books, go read them now. This series is based around five men who act as vigilantes in their town, Brinton Manor. They call themselves the Soldiers of Anarchy. They live in an abandoned Asylum that they converted into a nightclub and home. The Soldiers help to exact justice when technicalities keep a person from doing the time they deserve.

Each book follows one Soldier giving us a glimpse into their past and why they are the way they are now.

In the Joker we finally dive into the mind of Colton and what I mind it is. I've been looking forward to this story since the beginning and it did not disappoint.

Colton is a cinnamon roll hidden in an egotistical homicidal maniac, so naturally I absolutely love him. His story is complex, traumatic, and really helps to bring him to life. He enjoys being The Joker of the group, and enjoys his life but Shelley is about to flip everything for him.

The dynamic between Shelley and Colton is done well with plenty of tension building and banter between these enemies. Shelley is a strong female main character with lots of sarcasm and snark that makes for funny dialogues between her and Colton. I loved the character growth with both of the main characters.

TL;DR: This is a slow burn, enemies to lovers, with a fantastic twisty plot, tension building, and good spice. The stories are interconnected but the books can be read as a standalone. I do recommend that you ready The Psycho and The Reaper before reading the Joker.
