A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson
5.0
A Good Girl's Guide to Murder is an insanely addictive ya mystery book and a real page-turner and I don't regret choosing to read this book to ignoring some of my homeworks instead. (oop sorry not sorry )
In 2012, popular high school student, Andie Bell was believed to be murdered by Sal Singh. Then, after Sal did the crime, it was believed that he committed suicide. Everyone in the small Kilton town believes it. Everyone knows he did it.
Five years later, when Pippa Fitz-Amobi got a chance to choose a topic for her final year project, she decided to reopen the case, and with the help of Sal's brother, Ravi, they started to unravel secrets and prove that Sal is innocent.
You've probably heard this so many times, but let me tell you again: this book is so engrossing and so addictive!
Pippa Fitz-Amobi was an average character, but she was impressive, and being in her head in this mystery was simply impressive. Ravi Singh was also awesome. He was such a huge help and I like it when they both solve the case together, the romance here wasn't forced too. The longer they both dig into Andie's murder, the longer the list of possibilities went, they're an amazing partner in crime!
The pacing and the writing style didn't feel rushed and didn't feel too slow, it was really easy to follow, along with the mystery elements so that made it satisfying and great. Though there were a bunch of uses of 'OK' instead of 'okay', but yeah okay, I don't mind, honestly.
This book also had a nice representation, it wasn't stereotypical at all. Some heavy topics like racism, suicide, drug use, and some more were handled and approached pretty well and adequately.
Overall, it was gripping from the first page 'til the end. The mystery elements were just so great and I adore the family and friendship dynamics too. lovee itt!
I'll definitely reread and pay more attention to clues next time!
TW: animal death, drug use, mentions of rape, & kidnapping
