Okay, so a couple of things:
I was so incensed -- pun unintended -- at the beginning of this story, thinking that the author perhaps put a loaded gun at the start of the scene to pick it back up again, and I finished it (with my friend's encouragement) but the gun just lay there undisturbed. So, in that sense, this book caused an itch that has been left categorically unscratched. And this sucks, because the topic of wealth and the baggage it comes with is something that captures me.
The storytelling itself was good, and kept me listening and at certain points in the narrative, hanging on to every word, because I thought the loaded gun was finally going to be addressed only to be disappointed.
There was so much this book could've said (and since it's open to interpretation, I could draw up a couple of conclusions...) but there was nothing definitive. All of what I can give is speculative and that grates at me a bit, if I'm being honest. Like, this book shouldn't have been about parental love -- and I don't know why it's marketed that way.
Hay.
