I don’t know what to say about this one. I don’t think it was horrible, but it certainly wasn’t for me. I was about sixty percent in before things started getting remotely interesting, but more happened in the last seventy pages than the entire book which was unfortunate. The best thing about this (for me!) was the magical aspects (a little bit) and Pila. I didn’t care for the characters or their romance; the romance for both sisters especially made no sense to me, although Lettle and Rayan grew on me toward the end. I feel like this first book was mostly world-building and that was probably what interested me overall, but I still struggled to understand it all fully. I wanted to DNF multiple times, and I was bored for most of it. Things just seemed to happen to the characters, to the point where I had to laugh in disbelief. We didn’t need Lettle’s POV, if anything we should’ve gotten Rayan or Furi’s—Lettle gave us nothing that we wouldn’t have known without her POV. It just dragged the story out painfully. Yeeran felt like such a passive character, running behind women in power who treat her like crap. I wished we’d just gotten her POV and maybe her development would’ve been better executed. I’m not sure if I’ll continue the series.
