The Complete Tales and Poems of Winnie-The-Pooh by A.A. Milne

5.0

Quiet, contemplative and cuddly. Reading the complete collection, including 2 loosely-strung storybooks and 2 stream of consciousness books of poetry, reveals Milne’s respect for the ponderings of childhood.
This volume, a generous gift from my aunt to my son, has been on my nightstand off and on through all my children’s childhoods. We read it here and there, but never thoroughly, until I took up the storybook portions with my 10 year old this year. I continued with the poetry mostly on my own. She enjoyed the stories, and had the attention span to hear them in full or halves, which we never managed when they were younger. The poems were too nonsensical and childish for her taste, because she’s now not young enough and not old enough to appreciate them. I think they’re best read to children 6 and under (who won’t properly understand) and parents with children old enough to miss their more innocent life stages.
