The moment I picked up this particular book I was instantly reminded why I loved his books in the first place. You can tell that there is so much love and passion put into each one. I'm really glad that out of the books that I received this was the first one I decided to read first.
A Bend in the Road starts off with someone telling us their side of the story, I won't say who for it will ruin one of the twists towards the end. Also only parts of the story are from the first person point of view, the rest is all third person. It started off super cute, and I often caught myself having a silly smile plastered to my face while I read it. They way each character interacted was so realistic it was hard to imagine that WASN'T based on a true story. Towards the middle of the book it started to take a slightly weird turn for me, only because the story teller started making these confessions that were dark compared to the rest of the book. I mean don't get me wrong, the book starts off sad, but not dark, there is a difference in my opinion. But as you move on in the book you start to realize that the darkness needed to be in the book to make it that much better. I will admit that crying was involved with this book, don't say I didn't warn you!
The main story is about Sarah Andrews (divorced) and Miles Ryan (widower). Who fall for each other through both of their heart breaks. As they slowly fall in love, we learn more about what happened to Miles wife, and the affect it's had on Miles and his son Jonah. But as Sarah started bonding with the Ryan's, evidence to convict the criminal who killed Miles past wife pops up. To top it all off a heartbreaking secret could tear their whole relationship apart. Throughout the book Sparks strung us along not knowing what was going to happen next. As I mentioned before, he has a way of making us feel what each character feels. So when they feel anger, I feel like I get angry with them, or when they're heartbroken I can't help be feel hurt myself!
Overall, it was a really good read! It did have an odd part here or there for me, but other than that it was amazing! I recommend it for anyone who is looking for a good romance novel! Or anyone who loves Nicolas Sparks book! And if you've never read one of his books before then you really need to get your but into a bookstore to buy one!!!
