When I Sing, Mountains Dance by Irene Solà

5.0

WHEN I SING, MOUNTAINS DANCE by Irene Solà (trans. from the Catalan by Mara Faye Lethem) is the tragic and profoundly human story of a family and their surrounding village high in the Pyrenees. This multigenerational tale is told through the lens of seventeenth-century witches, civil war ghosts, children, adults, mushrooms, creatures and the land itself. The novel has a remarkably strong sense of place and transports you to this timeless, charming mountain village. I devoured this book in one sitting. The extraordinary storytelling and lyrical prose had me utterly enthralled throughout. This is one of the most stunning books I’ve ever read about nature, love and death. I’m so glad #womenintranslationmonth gave me the push to read it. Highly recommend!!
