The Boyfriend App by Katie Sise

5.0

Climbed its way to the top of my favorites list, beating even Fangirl, which has fanfiction!
This book was about an awkward girl, though it's not plainly stated, it seems like she also has depression, which is understandable, considering her dad died and her friends abandoned her. She is very geeky, in the best way. She is a programmer and a hacker, who makes one of the best apps and popularizes it with the help of her cousin, a blogger.
I loved the book mainly because of all the foreshadowing, which you kinda feel that is out of place in the text but makes SOOOOOOO much sense later on. The plot twists were completely unexpected and made me gasp out loud in school and on public transport, which would have been kind of embarrassing, had I not been immersed in the text.
I noticed some correlation between TBA and Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. This novel was Frankenstein-esque in the way that she created something that was supposed to be better for society, but it bit her in the ass in the end (well, middle-ish.
I would recommend it to anyone who is familiar with tumblr-esque humor and enjoys reading YA.
