Through the Woods by E.M. Carroll

dark fast-paced

4.0

This anthology taught me that if you want a character to unnerve your audience, you need only show a close-up of their teeth while they eat. The first story is a perfectly distressing marriage of fairy tale and nosleep horror, the middle ones are spooky fillers, and the last brings an emotional depth that elevates the horror. The final monster concept is just crawling with imagination, yet tenderly nuanced. Someone get this in front of Guillermo del Toro.
