I enjoyed this book a lot. Tami Hoag is a master of her craft. This story takes place in a small bayou parish in Louisiana. A child has been brutally murdered and Det Nick Fourcade and his wife Det Annie Broussard are on the case to discover who the monster is. When more children turn up missing or dead, the detectives must fight not only a murderer but also a pompous sheriff who wants nothing more than to boot Nick off the force. The suspects are plentiful and not who you would expect. I loved Nick. He could be difficult but he fought for justice and to protect those he cares about even at times to the detriment of his reputation. The way he loves his wife and she adores him right back in this fierce and protective way all while solving this horrendous case was a bright spot in a dark story. Highly recommend!
