How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories by Holly Black

5.0

"Stories can justify anything. It doesn’t matter if the boy with the heart of stone is a hero or a villain; it doesn’t matter if he got what he deserved or if he didn’t. No one can reward him or punish him, save the storyteller. And she’s the one who shaded the tale so we’d feel whatever way we feel about him in the first place. You told me once, stories change. Now it’s time to change your story."

This book has that 'it'. That elusive tiny little spark that elevates the book. That spark that makes the book memorable. That spark that touches you. That spark that speaks to your soul.

I enjoyed reading this book more than I thought I would.

I wish [a:Holly Black|25422|Holly Black|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1589911274p2/25422.jpg] wrote the series with multiple POVs; Jude, Cardan, Taryn, Oriana, Roach, Vivi, etc. It would certainly make for more expansive 'epic' storytelling.

Nonetheless, I am overjoyed that this book was published. I love Cardan's perspective, his growth, his maturity, and his humanity.

That said, the artwork doesn't suit my tastes but is unique.
