Death of a Pirate King by Josh Lanyon

5.0

This was definitely my favourite in this series for now.
It was darker and grittier and more heartbreaking and I could not get enough.
Adrien absolutely shines in this one. He's still the same hilarious sleuth we all love and adore but, after all the pain and heartbreak of the third book, plus a worsening heart and some serious soul-deep tiredness, he's very much changed: more cynical and careful, but also much more aware of his mortality and that broke me.
I also loved that there was a time jump between the previous story and this one: it made Adrien and Jake's story much more heartbreaking and painful and realistic. And romantic: in this fourth book you can actually see and feel that their relationship is of the soulmate kind.
I appreciated Jake in this one so much more. He's still a bit of an a**hole and he definitely needs someone to shake him, but I was feeling quite proud of him by the end.
Speaking of which... *sobs in a corner* I need to see Adrien safe and happy.
I also LOVED Adrien's new step-family and I adored Natalie with my whole heart.

Jumping right into the next one, I NEED to see what will happen.
