DNF @110 pages.
I’ve seen so many glowing reviews of this one, so I expected it to be stellar.
I’m just gonna say it, y’all lied.
Jenny Kristal has finally returned to her family over a decade later after her abduction. Or so we think. I’m actuality, it’s not Jenny. It’s a 20 something imposter who assumes the identity of missing kids.
I was really uncomfortable with this story line especially because the MC is just arrogant and lazy. I couldn’t stand her. One moment she was an apathetic 20 something and the next she was pretending to be an innocent six year old. It just felt so cheap.
Our other MC Ben (the brother of Jenny) isn’t much better. He’s usually high as a kite and resorts to snarky comments over any real substance.
The writing of this one is choppy and not cohesive. This books reads more like a (very) rough draft with fleeting thoughts rather than a polished piece of work.
I’ve had the ending spoiled for me to see if I should’ve kept reading, and I’m glad to say that I put this one down in favor of something better (which is saying a lot since this book is barely 300 pages).
Thank you to Dutton Books for providing a review copy. This did not influence my review. All opinions are my own.
