The Darkness Within Us by Tricia Levenseller

3.0

Oh. No.

For as much as I really disliked Alessandra, I also really disliked Chrysantha. The good thing about Chrysantha, is I really disliked her less as the story went on, rather than more as the case of Alessandra.

There was more of a storyline to this book compared to the first, so I was really happy to see that, but it did carry a very similar storyline. Pretend to fall in love with the guy to kill him and / or ruin him. I was surprised to see this happen again in the second book as it was the main plot line in the first. I'm glad that we moved away from it, and it wasn't a big focus in the second point, but it still kind of bothers me that it happened at all.

I definitely felt more chemistry between our fmc and mmc in this one than with Alessandra and the shadow king in the first, so maybe that's why I enjoyed this one more, maybe it just felt a bit more genuine to me. I liked watching the two fall in love. There were points where I almost did swoon, just a little bit.

BUT, my biggest issue was again the “strong” fmc that spent half the book whining about how hard her life is and how nothing ever goes her way and woe is me. It was over done… and it got to be a bit tedious for me and put an edge of annoyance toward this book that I was hoping wouldn't show up.

Overall, it's better than the first. But, I never fell in love.
