Did You Hear about Kitty Carr is a brilliant showcase of what it is like to be a black woman in America both in the present and in the 1950s. It shows how even the women who could pass as white were living in constant fear and as if they were on the outskirts of society. The relationship between Kitty and her husband was very sweet and he reacted how you would want someone to respond when he found out about their daughter. However, there was a scene in their early marriage that was for sure marital rape. As much as I get tired of seeing rape as a plot point, this was a harsh reality that women often faced at the time.
