This series was always about a darker subject matter, but this volume took it to a pretty dark place.
At least 2, and likely 3, of the main characters have died. At this point, I have to assume everyone except Ellie ends up unalived by the end.
there were a few things about this one that bothered me -
maybe I just skipped right over it as I was reading, but were there clocks in the jail? How did Ellie keep knowing exactly how much time had passed without clocks? But I don’t remember them explicitly saying there were clocks. I’ve also suspended my disbelief for the first two books, but it’s getting much harder to do as the events keep getting more and more grand and require more acute knowledge.
it’s safe to say I’m going to take a break from this series for a bit and come back at it in the new year, but I will be finishing it. Still interested to see how everything comes together.
