How Could I Forget? by Em Fyre, Em Fyre

5.0

I love urban fantasy, magic, and shapeshifters, so I had to give this one a try when I saw an ad on Instagram. I hadn't yet read a book where characters could enter and modify each other's dreams, though.
Dromvisas (those with the ability to enter dreams) can play together in the dreamworld with everything they imagine coming to life. Some can even cause nightmares or hallucinations or feed off others' dreams. I loved how they could recognize others of their kind by the patterns swirling in their eyes.
From the look of the cover, I expected this to be a young adult novel, but it was told from two points of view--Liv, a woman struggling to move on from her abusive partner and embrace the darkness of her maere (nightmare) abilities; and her daughter Revna, a fifteen-year-old just coming into her abilities. The story also heavily focused on Liv's younger son Falks, who has mysterious powers of his own.
I felt that the story was a bit slow to get into the action, but once it did, I had trouble putting it down. Not only do the characters control dreams, but they also each have their own shapeshift form based on their personalify, such as raven, fox, wolf, or lynx. This book was extremely well-written, with action, romance, betrayal, and lighthearted moments to tie it all together. I hope there will be a sequel (it's set up for one but has a satisfying ending).
