Moby-Dick by Herman Melville
5.0
Well, that was one helluva sail. While I could not care less about the chapters on whale anatomy and fish classifications, and all the naval details regarding expeditions and whaling history, the actually eventful chapters made up for it in the plenty.
I could really see this as a GAM, in spite of its overbearing ideology (or mayhaps, thanks to it); Moby-Dick definitely spells out the great in the Great American Novel: awfully symbolic, almost nihilistic in its drive, and spanning pages and pages of American heroism or maybe, heroic Americanness.
