Sleeping Beauties by Stephen King, Owen King
3.0
Overall, I thought "Sleep Beauties" was an entertaining read, and very smartly offered provocative commentary on the inequalities and injustices between genders, and to a lesser extent, race. Stephen King knows how to spin a story into completely different entities that never gets old even though the average fan and consistent reader can spot the same motifs and themes. I feel that Owen King brought the current social complexities to this novel that made it really engaging. The issue of the novel was the over-abundance of characters that took away from the element of backstory that sets off Stephen's better novels. None of the characters are exactly likeable, which I find refreshing because I think it paints a more realistic picture of how humanity might be if it ever had to face a world-wild apocalyptic situation. It also shows how humanity can worsen a situation making rash and irrational decisions.
